DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

The statistics shows that students from BME (Black Minority Ethnic) groups or those from low family income are more likely to drop out of school than their peers. Beyond technical and methodological issues, many researches have come to the conclusion that the success of teacher teaching also depends on subjective factors, such as attitudes and unconscious ethnocentric and stereotypical beliefs that they project onto the students.

COMMENTS ON THIS PUBLICATION:

The article illustrates how teachers and educators could change some unconscious attitudes related to unequal and discriminatory treatment towards students. In details, it focuses on three aspects:
the learning process as a way to unlearn some dogmas and misinterpretations of reality which mark and condition our thought;
the concept of neuroplasticity which refers to the high malleability of the brain and its ability to be modified as a result of experience;
the will to change beliefs and prejudices focusing in new approaches.
