DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

In this article, the author presents elements of a scientific debate around several issues that are discussed among researchers and which overlap themes from the public debate:
• Can we organize a typology of absent students from standard profiles?
• Are absent students "unfortunate exceptions" in a system that would control the education of all badly, or is their situation significant of a selection which delivers at the margin those who are not in line with its standards?
• What links can be established between absenteeism, drop-out and delinquency?
• To what extent are families responsible in their children's drop-out? This last question allows relativizing the supposed "resignation of the parents," "evidence" regularly heard in schools and among social workers.

COMMENTS ON THIS PUBLICATION:

According to the author, it would be interesting to continue the research and measure the impact of multiple existing experiences to propose alternative solutions to the students who do not comply with school norms.
