Low rates of participation in post-16 education and training are recognised as one of the significant weaknesses of the UK learning system, and those who leave education are disproportionately from disadvantaged backgrounds. In this book the authors outline an ambitious programme of reforms to help tackle the issue and argue for a more innovative approach to education and training. The authors then set out a range of practical measures to help tackle the problem.
Excellent, thought provoking publication with some innovative recommendations and conclusions e.g. an entitlement to 'four years of learning' taken any time up to the age of 25; an extension of the EMA (Educational Maintenance Allowance) up to the age of 25; greater freedom to innovate to make room for bottom-up curriculum development and seeking alternative ways of teaching general and vocational subjects;
