DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

In this book, the reader is invited to observe the author as she “shadows” two seventeen-year old students during a school day in two “very good” high schools, one in New York, the other in the center of Rome. Each chapter is devoted to one school hour, and in the narrative the hours in the United States and in Italy are alternated, so as to lead the reader to make continuous comparisons. This book not only demolishes many stereotypes on Italian and American schools, but also teaches the reader how to observe “oneself in the act of observing”.
