School dropout is one of the biggest problems of the Romanian
educational system after 1990. Dropout rate in Romania is the
highest among the member states of the European Union.
The first part of the study is dedicated to presenting the main statistical indicators on school population and school dropout in Romania. In the second part of the paper I present the main results of a qualitative research done on school dropout topic in eight urban schools.
Contents:
1. Synthetic indicators on the educational system in Romania compared with the situation recorded in the EU.
2. School population and school dropout in Romania.
3. Forms, causes and assessments of early school dropout.
Qualitative research conducted in the eight urban schools revealed that school dropout known values significantly higher among the Roma population, due to financial problems of the daily life of many families, plus, for some situations, the problem of inconsistency between habits and traditions in relationship with the educational system.

Stay@School at the Future of Education Conference
The Stay@School projet will be presented at the third edition of the “Future of Education” international conference, held in Florence, Italy, on 13 - 14 June 2013. Over 250 participants from all over the world will attend the conference. The conference participants belong to the sectors of higher education, school education, vocational education and training as well as adult education, therefore representing all of the target groups of the Stay@School project.
