The book shows the results of a research project about the prevalence and the causes of school absenteeism.
The effects of family, school and peers are examined.
There are risk factors in all three areas of life.
Empirical results show that there is a link between truancy and criminal behaviour.
Recommendations for preventing and dealing with truancy are deduced.

The authors work for the Research Institute for Sociology of the University of Cologne.
The book is written for the fields of science and social work.
For the first time truancy is examined as a sociological problem.

Stay@School at the Future of Education Conference

The Stay@School projet will be presented at the third edition of the “Future of Education” international conference, held in Florence, Italy, on 13 - 14 June 2013. Over 250 participants from all over the world will attend the conference. The conference participants belong to the sectors of higher education, school education, vocational education and training as well as adult education, therefore representing all of the target groups of the Stay@School project.
