DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

YOUTHREACH is a national programme that offers second chance education and training to young people who left school early without qualifications. This report looks at the background to the Youthreach Project, the context of crisis for the trainees within Youthreach and crises management models.
The aims and objectives of the project are outlined, the methods and results of the research, and a discussion of the results and recommendations. The aims of the research were:
1. To carry out research into the extent and level of crises within the overall Youthreach programme
1. To establish the level of supports needs
2. To identify best practice and potential models for dealing with same
A questionnaire was developed for the purposes of gaining insight, and quantitative data, into how trainees self-reported problem management, coping strategies and social, emotional and life skills; and to take a first step towards creating a tool which might be further developed for use within the Youthreach setting. The report offers clearly identified recommendations for crises intervention for both trainees and staff members.

COMMENTS ON THIS PUBLICATION:

This document offers an in-depth view of the myriad of crises situations experienced by trainees. The research explores how other organisations respond to young people in crisis, and outlines a variety of different crisis intervention models, and good practice in working with young people at risk. It integrates this information with its own research to come up with recommendations specifically relevant to Youthreach projects
