The prevention of the failure at school and the leaving of the learning pathways is a primary goal for all EU member states in line with the new objectives of the Lisbon Strategy 2020. Italy, despite having made good progresses in recent years, is one of the countries that is still far from the benchmark of 10%, namely the maximum percentage of young people who do not achieve the diploma or a professional qualification before entering in the labour market. Before setting out appropriate strategies it is necessary to analyse the causes that lead to early school leaving. The volume describes the direct causes of early school leaving as well as the hidden ones. It is necessary to innovate local policies.
The volume is addressed to teachers, tutors, people responsible for the coaching, local policy makers interested in implementing this new approach.
