This article develops two approaches for the treatment of early school leaving.
School approach
If the school can generate exclusion, it can also cultivate protection factors: supportive, empathy and coaching relationships... that can facilitate the school reintegration of the young person at risk.
The authors illustrate this approach by describing structures that allow students in difficulty to leave (for more or less short periods) of a school environment which they maintain problematic interactions with, to get them to reconstruct themselves in places that offer emotional and cognitive reinvestment opportunities.
Community approach
It has developed for the past fifteen years. It mobilizes a large variety of actors from all sectors of society. The authors illustrate this approach through the research conducted in the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, which seeks the implementation of an inter-sectoral consultation mechanism to fight against school drop-out.
This article makes some proposals for a quality approach in the implementation of new educational alliances incorporating school and community approaches.
